Welcome to Let Me Wash Your Face

As a holistic aesthetician and makeup artist by day, skin has long been a passion of mine.
When I was a teenager I had terrible acne and discovered what worked best for me. Clearing up my skin helped my confidence and I built my love of skincare into a career.
Makeup and aesthetics has brought me every where from teaching internationally, working in television and film, doing fashion editorials, creating a wonderful group of private clients who i see regularly, to consulting with writers from Now and Eye Magazine.
This blog is for those of you who have skin issues that need to be addressed and perhaps you're not finding the answers elsewhere.
One thing I will say off the top - quick fixes are just that, quick fixes. I prefer to help people with a more internal, long term approach. It sounds mundane, but it's actually really fun and exciting! You'll spend less money on products, you won't have to buy as many creams and potions that won't work for you and you will find a regime that you enjoy - it will make washing your face a highlight of your day everyday!
Those who know me well know that I take great joy in washing my face and the faces of others. So, let me give you all the tips and tricks you need to do a wonderful job of taking care of yourself.
My first rule for my first posting:
Do not buy foaming washes!
Whether they are natural or not, it does not matter. Even if the foaming face wash says it's moisturizing, it's not! Foaming face washes create imbalance in the skin, pulling out all of your natural oils, leaving you with a 'squeaky clean' feeling that many seem to desire. When you pull out all of your natural oils it sends a message to your skin to begin over producing oil. This creates a combination skin type of both dehydrated (which is different than dry) and can perhaps still be a little oily. If you have dry skin and use a foaming wash, skin becomes both dry and dehydrated, because the longer you use a foam or soap, the more it builds up on your skin, creating a barrier that moisturizer can not penetrate.

My favourite face wash is by Earth Science. It's called the ADE Creamy Cleanser and it should be used twice a day - once when you wake up and once before bed. You can use it in the same way you use a foaming wash - splash your face with warm water, take a pump of the cleanser and gently rub in little circular movements all over your face. This is safe for use around the eyes and for those of you who wear eye makeup it safely removes even water proof makeup. I wash my face with my contacts in and it never bothers my eyes. Splash off with warm water and pat your skin dry with a towel.
Keep in mind I started using this face wash when I had acne, and I still use it 16 years later. It really does work for every skin type.
For the men out there who may be reading this, I want you to think of washing your face like brushing your teeth, do it in the morning and do it before bed. When we sleep our body is releasing toxins, so if we don't wash our face in the morning, we are more likely to break out. Washing before bed is important because we get a build up on our face of oil that we produce in the day, pollution, we can have skin which is irritated by the elements - either hot or cold.
Washing twice a day will keep your skin in good balance as long as you are using a milky cleanser that does not contain any mineral oil or petroleum by products.

I could seriously write forever regarding skin care, but this is a start.
